The Aiken/Barnwell Counties Community Action Agency, Inc.’s (ABCCAA) Program Year 2014 programmatic efforts and accomplishments are noteworthy. Our Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program reduced or eliminated a barrier to initial or continuous employment for 190 families.

169 families maintained or established affordable housing through case management employment support services. 69 families received food assistance and 261 families received assistance with energy bills. 35 youth were provided activities in the areas of personal development, character building, leadership skills, educational achievement and civic responsibility.

During 2014, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provided service to 4,279 families in Aiken, Barnwell and Lexington counties, benefiting over 10,000 individuals! 62% of LIHEAP recipients were elderly, disabled, or were families with young children. Coupled with other services, LIHEAP energy assistance allowed 878 seniors, aged 60 and over, and 824 disabled persons, aged 17 and older, to maintain independent living situations.

In Program Year 2014, 105 Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) volunteers served over 898 children, contributing a total of 112,324 hours.

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) improved/weatherized 272 homes in 2014, benefiting 490 people. Families receiving weatherization services saw annual energy bills reduced by an average of $484. These savings will be realized yearly!

The ABCCAA is currently exploring a weatherization partnership with Duke Energy, Greenville, SC. The Agency will receive up to $1.3 million in funds from this partnership that can be utilized in all five counties it serves. This will create substantial opportunities to help deserving families in our community.

The Aiken/Barnwell Counties Community Action Agency, Inc.’s expenditures for year-ending 08/31/14 totaled $10,291,992. The non-federal match received in 2014 totaled $735,759. We are grateful for the continuing financial support we receive from our loyal donors!
